Hellman Experiential Science Program

Committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields, Hellman Experiential Science Program matches first-generation student scholars with a mentor from the STEM and healthcare professions to work on a semester-long project.

Each Hellman scholar is connected to a STEM or healthcare industry mentor who will guide them through the semester project.

Hellman scholars will present at an end-of-program showcase.

Hellman scholars will be awarded a scholarship of $2000.

What to Expect

Under the mentorship of a STEM or healthcare professional, student scholars can expect to gain experience working on a project of their choice that draws on STEM methods to address a pressing social issue. The projects will be completed during a ten-week program during the spring semester. Scholars will meet with mentors on a weekly basis and present their work at the end of the program.

Eligibility Criteria

The program is open to first-generation Oakland-based undergraduate Northeastern student applicants who are interested in pursuing careers in science. Hellman welcomes student applications from all academic backgrounds and levels of experience.
